National squash player Ashley DeGroot, Beau Fernandes, John Maikoo and Lloyd Fung-A-Fat were among the winners when the Guyana Squash Association (GSA) sanctioned Ansa McAl Lucozade Handicap Squash Tournament commenced at the Georgetown Club Facility on Tuesday.
DeGroot, sister of Raphael DeGroot, playing with a +3 handicap, downed Antonio Joseph (+10) 15 – 12, 15 – 9 while Fung-A-Fat (+8) overcame Dominique Dias (12) 15 – 9, 15 – 11. On the other hand, Fernandes (+12) defeated Demetrius De Abreu (0) 15- 10, 12 – 15, 15 – 6 while Maikoo (+7) squeaked past David Fernandes (+10) 15 – 15, 15 – 7, 15 – 14.
Meanwhile in the Open Category, Medhi Rahaman (+7) defeated Jonathan Fernandes (+10) 15 – 9, 15 – 7 while Jonathan Antzak (+9) downed Johan Da Silva (+10) 15 – 6, 15 – 7, Adam Alves (+8) edged Javed Rahaman (-1) 15 – 10, 15 – 7 and Satesh Singh (+6) overcame Theron Mohabeer (+7) 15 – 14, 15 – 14. Action in the event continues at the same venue tonight from 18:00hrs.
In the Category-A section, James Mekdeci (+8) downed Midesh Ramdhani (+12) 15 – 7, 15 – 11 whilst Aliyah Persaud (+7) defeated Elan Rahaman (+12) 15 – 6, 15 – 5, Kamir Khan (+10) dismissed Nechemiyah Levans (+8) 15 – 6, 15 – 11 and Abosaide Cadogan (+5) crushed Teija Edwards (+12) 15 – 8, 15 – 10.
The final results of the section witnessed Paige Fernandes (+10) edging Louis Da Silva (+12) 15 – 9, 8 – 15, 15 – 10, Mashal Allicock (+12) downing Chad De Abreu (+12) 15 – 12, 15 – 6 and Mohyryan Baksh (+10) edging Mikhail Persaud (+12) 12 – 15, 15 – 8, 15 – 7.
