LONDON, CMC – Fiery fast bowler Tino Best has joined Hampshire on a short-term deal, replacing fellow former Barbados and West Indies speedster, Fidel Edwards, who has been ruled out by injury.
The 34-year-old Best, who has played 25 Tests and 26 One-Day Internationals, will be tasting English County cricket for the second time, having played in the past for Yorkshire.
Director of cricket, Giles White, said the opportunity was a great one for Best.
“Fidel joined us last year under similar circumstances, he never looked back and this is a chance for Tino to emulate him,” White said.
“He trained with us in Barbados during pre-season and looked good. It has come about at short notice, initially on a short term contract.
“He seems excited about the opportunity and very motivated to do well; we look forward to seeing how things develop.”
Best’s international career is virtually over after playing his last Test three years ago and his last ODI, two years ago.
The right-armer boasts a modest Test record with 57 wickets at an average of 40, while taking 34 wickets at an average of 34 in ODIs.
Hampshire take on Middlesex in their next game on May 1 at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.
