Warrriors beat Blazers 118-106 in first game of series

(The Sports Xchange) – Klay Thompson bombed in a game-high 37 points and Draymond Green recorded his first career postseason triple-double as the Golden State Warriors ran off early from the Portland Trail Blazers en route to a 118-106 victory in Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal series in Oakland, California, yesterday.

Even without reigning Most Valuable Player Stephen Curry, who is out with a sprained right knee, the Warriors ran up 118 points on 47.3 percent shooting against a team less than 48 hours removed from having closed out a first-round series win over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Thompson hit a 3-pointer just 17 seconds into the game and the Warriors never looked back en route to their seventh consecutive win in Game 1 of a playoff series.

Hitting four 3-pointers, Thompson poured in 18 of his 37 points in the first quarter, during which he single-handedly outscored the Trail Blazers 18-17.

Seven teammates got into the scoring act as well, as Golden State outshot Portland 60.0 percent to 23.8 in the first quarter while building a 37-17 lead.

The Trail Blazers were never closer than nine after that.

Green’s triple-double consisted of 23 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists in 38 minutes. With all three members of their starting frontcourt recording at least 12 rebounds, the Warriors dominated the Trail Blazers on the boards to the tune of 55-40. Game 2 in the best-of-seven series is scheduled for tomorrow in Oakland.
