West Berbice League set to resume today

Following the rescheduling of matches owing to the weather, the Berbice Football Association (BFA) ‘West Berbice League’ will officially resume this weekend with matches slated for the Mahaicony Sports Club ground.

Today from 16:00hrs it will be a top-of-the-table showdown when League leaders Rosignol United, with five points, lock horns with second placed Paradise Invaders who sit on four points.

Meanwhile tomorrow at the same venue, hosts and third placed unit Mahaicony United will tackle cellar occupant Hopetown United. Presently Mahaicony has four points but a weaker goal differential than Paradise. On the other hand, Hopetown are yet to come off the mark.

According to an official press release from the BFA the tournament is being held to keep senior football alive in Berbice.

With no sponsor, the BFA and its members have agreed that the teams will cover the cost of the tournament and in an effort to reduce costs there will be three leagues. The West Berbice League, the New Amsterdam League & the Corentyne League. The winners of each league would meet in a round robin playoff to determine the overall Berbice Champion.
