Kallis appointed chief mentor for Knight Riders

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Renowned South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis has been appointed chief mentor to the Trinbago Knight Riders for the upcoming Caribbean Premier League season.

The 40-year-old made his debut last year as a player for Knight Riders – then known as Trinidad Red Steel – and helped them win the coveted Twenty20 title for the first time.

Head coach Simon Helmot said he expected Kallis to play a key role again for the Port-of-Spain based franchise.

“We are very glad to have the legend on-board in the TKR set-up as chief mentor and I look forward to working with him closely this year,” Helmot said.

Kallis is currently serving as head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League after previously spending four years as a player for the franchise, in which time KKR snapped up two IPL titles.

He is considered perhaps the finest all-rounder of his generation, with over 13 289 runs in 166 Tests, 11 579 in 328 One-Day Internationals and 19 695 first class runs.

Kallis, a right-arm seamer also claimed 292 Test wickets, 273 ODI scalps and 427 first class wickets.
