Larissa Wiltshire, Taylor Fernandes and Alex Melville secured opening day wins when the  Guyana Squash Association (GSA)-sanctioned Woodpecker Products Ltd Junior National Squash Championships commenced on Wednesday.

Staged at the Georgetown Club Facility, Wiltshire crushed Sarah Lewis 11/1, 11/4, 11/2 in their Field u-19 fixture. Similarly, Fernandes dismissed Makeda Harding 11/1, 11/3, 11/8 in the final matchup of the section.

On the other hand, Melville defeated Daniel Islam 11/1, 11/3, 11/6 in the Boys u-19 division. In the final fixture of the section, Alex Cheeks overcame Matthew Phang 11/4, 11/7, 5/11, 11/9.

In other results, Daniel Islam crushed John Phang 11/2, 11/0, 11/1 while Anthony Islam defeated Samuel Ince-Carvahal 11/3, 11/3, 11/4 in the u-15 Boys division. Continuing in the same section, Shomari Wiltshire mauled Jason Gomes 11/1, 11/1, 11/2 and Gianni Carpenter defeated Lucas Jonas 11/8, 11/5, 11/7.

In the line u-17 Boys fixture, Cheeks edged Anthony Islam 11/9, 13/11, 11/8 while Rebecca Low brushed aside Maya Collins 11/6, 11/8, 11/6 in the solitary girls’ u-17 showdown.

In the Boys u-11 Category, Michael Alphonso defeated Nathan Rahaman 11/4, 11/1, 11/3 while Ethan Jonas downed James Mekdeci 8/11, 11/8, 11/1, 11/0 and Demetrius De Abreu defeated Kamir Khan 11/4, 11/2, 11/6.

In the Girls u-13 section, Kirsten Gomes crushed Haley Carpenter 11/4, 11/6, 11/1 while Madison Fernandes defeated Teija Edwards 11/0, 11/0, 11/0 and Abosaide Cadogan defeated Aliyah Persaud 11/5, 11/3, 11/5. Action in the event is slated to continue today at the same venue.
