Guyana’s Sachia Vickery has advanced to the main draw of this year’s French Open lawn tennis competition and will open her campaign at Roland Garros today against Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova.

Sevastova is ranked 84th in the world and should Vickery defeat her much higher ranked opponent a clash against the winner of the Victoria Azarenka versus Karin Knapp looms.

Vickery, daughter of Guyanese Paula Liverpool and Rawle Vickery, is ranked 164th in the world but that did not stop her from playing unbeaten in the qualifiers.

Vickery reached the main draw with a straight sets win over the number 273 ranked French player Fiona Ferro.

Vickery defeated Ferro, 6-0, 6-1 on Friday in their third round women’s singles qualifying match.

Previously she had beaten Holland’s Cindy Burger 6-2, 5-7, 6-2. Burger is ranked 169th in the world.

In her first round qualifying match Vickery defeated Sweden’s Rebecca Peterson 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. Peterson is ranked number 123 in the world.
