The ongoing Mayors Cup football tournament continues today and tomorrow with an exciting double header at the Den Amstel and Victoria Grounds, respectively.
Today the Beavers will lock horns with Eagles over at Den Amstel from 14:00hrs while Uitvlugt challenge Herstelling at the same venue from 16:00hrs. On Sunday, BV Triumph and Mahaica will clash at the Victoria Ground (East Coast Demerara) at 18:30hrs, followed by Golden Grove against Cougars at 8:30pm.
Last Sunday, West Demerara came alive at the Den Amstel Ground, when Pouderoyen whipped Soesdyke 2-1 which was complimented shortly after when the hosts stuck it to Kuru Kuru 4-2. The first prize of $700,000 was donated by Aruwai Resort, while second place purse of $300,000 and trophy were compliments of Ansa McAl.
Third and fourth place prizes of $200,000 and $100,000 came kind courtesy of John Fernandes the Ministry of State, respectively. Ricks and Sari has also donated hampers which will go to the winning team while the tournament’s top goal scorer will get a three piece suite compliments of AH&L Kissoon Furniture Store.
This year’s tournament forms part of the 50th Anniversary Jubilee celebrations.
