Male b/ball squad reduced to 18 players

In preparation for the upcoming Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) U16 boys and girls’ championships which will be held here in July, the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) has reduced the shortlisted boys’ squad of 46 players to a provisional roster of 18 following evaluation sessions held over the weekend at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

The shortlisted squad was evaluated by a team of led by Head-coach Lugard Mohan.

Assisting the process was Kevin Bonnett, Willon Cameron, Wayne Hinds and Andrew Hercules.

Dominic Vincente was the physical trainer.

Training is set to intensify in the coming weeks prior to the naming of the final squad.

Meanwhile, according to a press release from the federation, the girls’ provisional squad of 28 players will be whittled down to 15 persons following another week of trials.

The girls’ team is being coached by Ann Gordon, Kirk Fraser, Julian Haynes, Abdulla Hamid and Hercules. Guyana will host the CBC u-16 championships from July 2nd-16th at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

The selected 18 male are Yannick Tappin, Leon Benjamin (Mackenzie High School); Kevon Wiggins, Kelmar Carmichael (New Amsterdam Multilateral); Shamar France (Berbice High); Kwesi Roberts (St. Rose’s High); Andrew Johnson, Nigel Bowen (Plaisance Secondary); Roydon Glasgow (Bishops’ High); Isaiah David (Kwakwani Secondary); Akeem Crandon, Kareem Boyle, Kenmon Roberts (President’s College); Jordan Alphonso, Jahleel Young (Marian Academy);  Zion Gray (Tutorial High); Quacey Shortt (Bladen Hall) and Jamal Persaud (North Georgetown).
