Lopsided wins for Plaisance, Marian Academy

— National Schools Basketball Festival

Plaisance Secondary and Marian Academy secured lopsided wins in the boys U19 and U16 divisions respectively when the National Schools Basketball Festival Georgetown and East Coast Regionals continued at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall recently.

In the U19 division, Plaisance dismissed Queen’s College 44-30. Nigel Bowen scored 12 points and five rebounds in the win while Terrence Daniels scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds. For Queen’s College, Damani Thomas scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds and three steals.

In another U19 encounter, Plaisance crushed St. Stanislaus College 60-27. They were led by double-doubles from Bowen and Daniels respectively with Bowen netting 14 points and pulling down 12 rebounds while Daniels scored 14 points and had 11 rebounds.

Chipping in with 10 points was Jared Sears. For St Stanislaus, Travis Belgrave played a lone hand of 17 points whilst pulling down five rebounds.

In an U16 fixture, Marian Academy defeated Tutorial High 34-10.

Jordan Alphonso scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds and four steals while Joshua Brazao assisted with six points and four rebounds.

In another U16 match, St. Joseph’s High edged Bladen Hall Multilateral 27-23. Denzil Ross top scored with nine points and had four seals while Shaquawn Gill chipped in with nine points and four rebounds. For Bladen Hall, Darnell Hamer recorded a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.

In the U14 section, St. Stanislaus College crushed Tutorial High 16-2. Thalenn Moore scored six points and had three rebounds while Nathan Hackett scored four points, grabbed 11 rebounds and four steals.

The quarterfinals will take place today and tomorrow at the same venue.

In the U16 section, Bishops’ High will tackle St. Joseph’s from 16:30hrs while St. Rose’s High will oppose Bladen Hall Multilateral from 17:30hrs.

At 18:30hrs, Plaisance Secondary will oppose President’s College while Marian Academy will face-off with North Georgetown from 19:30hrs. In the female quarterfinals tomorrow, St. Rose’s High will oppose Queen’s College from 14:30hrs while President’s College will tackle Plaisance Secondary from 15:30hrs.

At 16:30hrs, Marian Academy will oppose Tutorial High whilst Bishops’ High will face-off with St. Stanislaus College from 17:30hrs.

In the U19 section, Tutorial High will oppose St. Joseph’s High from 18:00hrs while St. Rose’s High will tackle Marian Academy from 19:00hrs. The Tournament is sponsored by Digicel Guyana, Edward B. Beharry (Champion) and Company Ltd and Banks DIH LTD (Powerade).
