Eagles FC edge Amelia’s Ward Panthers to clinch u-17 football

Eagles FC were crowned the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) under-17 champions, edging Amelia’s Ward Panthers by a 1-0 score line on Wednesday at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) ground in Linden.

In front of sizeable crowd at the iconic venue, rising star Omar Brewley settled the affair with a 75th minute conversion to break Amelia’s Ward hearts after the first period failed to separate the two teams.

Latching onto the ball at the top of the 18-yard area, the versatile attacker unleashed a powerful effort which sailed past the goalkeeper into the left side of the net.

With the result, Eagles FC secured the championship trophy while the loser was relegated to the second place trophy.

In the individual section, Brewley was also adjudged the event’s Most Valuable Player (MVP). Meanwhile in the 3rd Place Playoff, Net-rockers defeated fierce rival Milerock by a 3-0 margin.

Due to the result, Net-rockers collected the corresponding accolade while the loser walked away with the fourth place title. The presentation of prizes was conducted by the President of the UDFA and former Regional Chairman Sharma Solomon.
