Orville Hinds warmed up nicely for next week’s National Cycling Championships by winning his seventh event of the season yesterday at West Demerara.
The 2012 National road race champion out pedaled a field of rival wheelsmen and repeated as champion of the annual Castrol Father’s Day 50-mile road race which pedaled off at Wales, proceeded to Parika and returned to Schoonord for the finish.
Hinds rode tactically but attacking in the 17th edition of the race and emerged winner in a brisk one hour, 20 minutes and 53 seconds while pocketing a sprint prize.
The 25-year old launched his trade mark attack late in race and rode unchallenged to the finish line. Newly crowned Veteran Champion Junior Niles out sprinted the peloton to claim an impressive second ahead of Paul DeNobrega. National Champion, Claire Fraser Green won the ladies segment.
