Mahaicony Secondary in come-from-behind win

Mahaicony Secondary overcame a one goal deficit to defeat Number 8 Secondary 2-1 when the 6th annual Digicel Secondary Schools Football Championship continued yesterday at the Mahaicony Ground.

Falling behind to a Brentnol Frank strike in the 25th minute, the hosts equalised in the 48th minute as Nerbert Sears found the back of the net.

The come-from-behind result was then sealed as Sears netted his second compliments of a 51st minute conversion. On Saturday at the Orealla ground, home side Orealla Secondary crushed Siparuta Secondary 4-0.

Cameron Edwards netted twice in the seventh and 85th minute while Donell France and Miguel Devair scored in the 32nd and 37th minutes apiece.

Action in the event is set to continue today from 15:30hrs at several venues. The championships, which will be played in the traditional knockout format, will be staged in every region and will conclude on July 31st at the National Stadium in Providence.

Christianburg/Wismar Secondary has held a stranglehold on the event as they are current four time defending champions. The other victor of the most prestigious event in the country was Georgetown Technical Institute who won the inaugural event.

Winner of the event is slated to receive $1,000,000 toward the funding off a school project and the Championship trophy while the second place unit will receive $700,000 and the runners-up accolade.

The third and fourth placed unit will walk away $400,000 and $350,000 and the corresponding trophy. Similarly, $100,000 will be awarded to achieve zone winner.
