Hikers remain unbeaten with wins over GCC, Old Fort ‘B’

Hikers maintained their unbeaten record in the Lucozade Indoor Hockey Championships defeating Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) and Old Fort-B respectively on Saturday at the National Gymnasium.

In their opening fixture, Hikers defeated the Bourda-based team 6-4. Robert France netted a brace in the win while Andrew Stewart, Shane Samuels, Devin Munroe and Randy Hope recorded solo conversions.

For GCC, Peter DeGroot netted a double while Steven Xavier and Kevin Spencer scored once.

Meanwhile, in their second fixture, Hikers brushed aside Old Fort-B 9-2.

Munroe, Samuels and Stewart registered respective doubles in the assault while Aroydy Branford, Robert France and Randy Hope scored once.

On target with a double in the defeat was Deon Carew. In the female section, GCC Spartans downed Old Fort 2-0 through goals from Shebiki Baptiste and Marzana Fiedtkou in the first and 21st minute respectively.

Also, Old Fort-A defeated Saints 6-4. Jason DeSantos scored four times while Jason Clarke and Chris Low Koon netted once.

For Saints, Kevin Edwards, Joel Hunte, Hilton Chester and Yonnick Peters each found the back of the net once. Action in the event is set to continue at the same venue tomorrow from 17:00hrs.
