The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) last evening officially welcomed the top female cricketers of the Caribbean ahead of today’s start of the
2016 West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Women’s Regional 50 Over tournament.
The official opening ceremony of the tournament hosted by Guyana took place at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Pavilion last evening where the participating teams were welcomed by the GCB executives, in particular President Drubahadur and Director of Sports Chris Jones.
During their brief respective speeches, both Drubahadur and Jones told the ladies in attendance to play good cricket for their countries
while encouraging them to have fun while still carrying themselves as ambassadors of the sport.
The 50 over leg of the tournament will see three matches being played each day over the next week. Upon the completion of the 50 over, the ladies will engage in some T20 action before wrapping up the competition.
Hosts Guyana, led by West Indies star Tremayne Smartt, will open the tournament today against Windwards at the Enterprise Ground from 9:00hrs.
