Squash players off to excellent start at Caribbean junior c/ships

With just one defeat on the opening day, Guyanese squash players were off to an excellent start on the opening day of the Caribbean junior squash championships in the Cayman Islands.

Up to press time only captain of the boys team, Benjamin Mekdeci, was left to play his match.

The star of the first day was undoubtedly Paige Fernandes, who in her debut at the tournament won her first sound singles matches in both the Under 11 and Under 13 girls divisions while Rithew Saywack scored an upset win over 5/8 seed Dylan Pratt of Bermuda.

The other Guyanese players will commence their opening matches today in their respective age categories.

Also the organisers will play matches up to the semi-finals.

Girls Under 13

Paige Fernandes beat Jade Barnard (Cay) 11 – 6, 11 – 3, 11 – 4

Madison Fernandes defeated Rebekah Nichols 11 – 0, 11 – 1, 11 – 2

 

Girls Under 15

Makeda Harding (2) defeated Skylar Smith (Cay) 11 – 1, 11 – 6, 11 – 3

Maya Collins lost to Charlotte Too Good 5/8 (Ber) 11 – 7, 3 – 11, 6 – 11, 3 – 11

 

Boys Under 15

Daniel Islam (3/4) beat Kemar Lord (Bar) 11- 4, 11 – 6, 11 – 1

Anthony Islam (5/8) beat Kyle Haddad (Jam) 11 – 2, 11 – 2, 11 – 3
