T/dad, Guyana match abandoned

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC- Barbados and Windward Islands posted impressive victories in the fourth round of matches in the WICB Regional Under-17 50-over Tournament in Trinidad on Saturday.

Barbados put on a convincing display to subdue Leeward Islands by seven wickets at Gilbert Park while Windward Islands hammered Jamaica by eight wickets in a lopsided affair Queen’s Park oval.

Off-break bowler Shakkae Marshall rocked the Leeward innings with a five wicket haul after they won the toss and elected to bat.

Marshall knocked-over the stumps of two batsmen while snatching five wickets for 17 runs from his six overs to engineer a batting meltdown as the Leewards were bundled out for 75 in 27.3 overs.

Only two Leeward Islands players got into double figures-Elroy Francis Jnr 18 and Jerrellious Louis 16.

Barbados lost three wickets while coasting to their target of 76 in 21 overs with opener Shian Brathwaite leading the way with a patient knock of 31.

Meantime solid unbeaten half centuries from Tijourne Pope and Johnel Eugene steered Windwards to victory after they won the toss and sent the Jamaicans in.

Johnel Eugene grabbed four wickets and Johann Jeremiah three to bowl out Jamaica for 145 in 47.3 overs.

Only opener Dorrell Thomas with a top score of 32 and Dominic Samuels 31 got starts for Jamaica.

Windwards stumbled to 36 for two after losing opener Kimani Melius for 27 and Dane Edward for one to an impressive opening spell from Roberto Simpson.

But once Pope and Eugene came together the runs flowed in a powerful 111 run partnership which secured victory with 15 balls remaining.

Pope hit three fours and two sixes in scoring 53 from 93 balls while Eugene used up 87 balls to contribute 51 which included three boundaries and a six.

A third fixture between front runners Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana at the National Cricket Centre was abandoned due to rain.
