Western Tigers defeat Santos 2-0

Newly crowned Georgetown Football Association (GFA) league champions Western Tigers defeated Santos 2-0 Friday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground,Bourda.

With the title already sealed before the start of the contest, the West Ruimveldt unit won the contest through first half goals in front of a small crowd.

A Dwayne Ali free-kick led to the opening goal in the seventh minute after an attempted headed clearance by a defender was inadvertently directed into the back of the net. The second goal, in the 23rd minute, was more convincing as sharpshooter Randolph Wagner skipped past the goalkeeper inside the box before slotting into the back of the net.

Western Tigers finished the league on 33 points from 10 wins, three draws and one defeat. They also avenged their earlier 2-1 defeat to Santos in the first round of the championships.

The youthful Santos unit ended second position on 26 points.
