Golden Jaguars may play in friendly next

With the third round of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Caribbean Cup Qualifiers slated to commence in October, the Golden Jaguars will possibly be returning to the international circuit with a friendly encounter during the month of September. According to sources close to the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), the national setup in preparing for the impending third round, could face off against a Caribbean opponent during the FIFA International Window.

The sources say that the possible opponent for the Guyanese is St. Kitts and Nevis who are interested in hosting an international fixture. The sources further divulged that the Elite League Clubs and all the relevant stakeholders are expected to meet shortly to plan and discuss the new changes that will be implemented for the upcoming season of the GFF Stag Beer Elite League.The Golden Jaguars were officially drawn with Jamaica and Suriname in the third round of the Scotiabank Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Caribbean Cup qualifiers.

Guyana will face off with Jamaica on October 5th at the National Stadium in Providence before locking horns with their neighbouring rivals to the east three days later at the Andre Kamperveen Stadium in Paramaribo.

Guyana clinched their berth to the third round after finishing as the first runner-up in Group Three. In their first fixture, Guyana lost to Curacao 5-2 in Curacao before dismantling the United States Virgin Islands 7-0 in St. Thomas, USVI.

Meanwhile, the fifth Place playoff will be held during the period of November 7-15 while the Final Round will occur in May 2017. The top three teams in the tournament will qualify for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
