Jamaica’s Atkinson qualifies for breaststroke final

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, CMC – Alia Atkinson qualified for the final of the women’s 100 metres breaststroke on the second day of swimming competition of the 2016 Olympic Games here yesterday.

Atkinson made the final with the fifth fastest time of one minute, 06.72, the same as American Katie Meili.

Lily King of the United States qualified with the fastest time of 1:05.70.

Other competitors for today’s final are world record holder Ruta Meilutyte of Lithuania, Yulia Efimova (Russia), Jinglin Shi (China), Hrafnhildur Luthersdottir (Israel), and Rachel Nicol (Canada).
