Rain washes out Windies v India

GROS ISLET, St Lucia, CMC – No play was possible on the third day of the third Test between West Indies and India at the Darren Sammy National Stadium here yesterday.

Rain washed out all three sessions without a ball being bowled and with the match intriguingly poised, raising the prospect of a draw.

Steady rain through-out most of the day kept players off the field and forced officials to call off play before tea at 1.45pm and heavy early morning showers left a water-logged outfield.

Play is set to start at 9.30am Eastern Caribbean time today with 98 overs to be bowled while the forecast for day four is for early showers but a clear afternoon.

The match is at a critical stage after West Indies removed the last five Indian wickets for just 14 runs and staged an encouraging start to their first innings.

Responding to the visitors’ 353, West Indies reached the close on 107 for one, still 246 runs adrift of first innings lead.
