KINGSTOWN, St Vincent, CMC — Unbeaten half centuries from openers Anil Matthew and Johann Jeremiah and a four wicket haul from West Indies youth World Cup hero Ryan John steered Windward Islands to an opening win in round two of the WICB Regional One Day Under-19 Championships here yesterday.
Matthew and Jeremiah scored 58 and 54 as the Windwards registered a comprehensive 10 wicket victory over Jamaica by way of the Duckworth Lewis Method at Arnos Vale Playing Field.
John snared top figures of four wickets for 33 runs to restrict the Jamaicans to 130 for nine in 37 overs, one of three second round matches affected by rain.
Jeavor Royal 26, Javelle Glenn 24 and Dominik Samuels 20 were the leading scorers for Jamaica who suffered their first defeat following Wednesday’s opening win against Trinidad and Tobago.
Matthews counted ten boundaries while Jeremiah scored seven fours and a six as their unbeaten century stand for the first wicket carried their side to victory.
Meantime, Trinidad and Tobago crashed to their second straight defeat when they crumbled at the hands of Barbados by eight wickets by the Duckworth Lewis method at Sion Hill Playing Field.
A powerful half century from the promising opener Leniko Boucher guided the Bajans to victory after T&T had posted 150 for five in 43.4 overs with Joshua Da Silver conjuring a top score of 65 from 91 balls with eight fours.
Deswin Currency and Nicholas Kirton picked up two wickets each.
Boucher struck six fours and two sixes and was undefeated on 73 at the end while Shemar Springer was not out on 27 as Barbados secured their second victory.
The other second round fixture between ICC Americas and Leeward Islands at Park Hill playing Field ended in a no result.
Leewards were 45 for three when the rain came.
