GFF invited to participate in inaugural Future Cup U17 c/ships in Portugal

Guyana’s national U17 football team could be returning to the international circuit during the month of October as they have been invited to the Future Cup U17 Championship to be staged in Portugal.

According to information emanating from sources close to the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), the entity received the invitation during the month of July.

The process was facilitated through their Football Ambassador Alex Bunbury who previously played in the Iberian Peninsula country.

“It was made possible through him because he has several notable connections in Portugal and as such Guyana got invited,” the sources added.

The event will run from October 14th-23rd and will be staged in the city of Aveiro. Efforts to contact the GFF for a comment proved futile.

Countries from all over the world including South America, Central America, Asia and Europe will be participating.

The GFF is expected to make a decision on whether they will be participating in the tournament shortly as the budget for the event will cost the federation millions of dollars.

“While it is a very good experience for the players, for the cost to experience ratio, it doesn’t make sense. It makes more sense to invest the money locally into the clubs,” our sources suggested.
