Neal and Massy to stage anniversary 10Km run and Fitness Walk

Traditionally, when the calendar flips to September, one of the ways the Massy Group of Companies celebrate its anniversary is the hosting of a 10km run and Fitness Walk.

This year will be no different.

Yesterday, Chairman of conglomerate, Deo Persaud, along with president of the Athletic Association of Guyana, Aubrey Hutson, revealed that the event will run off on September 4.

This, along with other details of the seventh edition of the annual fixture were unveiled during the official launch at the company’s Ruimveldt Head Office.

According to Hutson, the race will commence at 6am at Vreed-en-Hoop, and the participants will cross the Demerara Harbour Bridge and end at the head office.

Note: Athletes are asked to assemble at the head office one hour prior to the start of the event.

Besides trophies and hampers, lucrative cash incentives will be up for grabs. In the Open category, the first male and female athletes to the tape will pocket $75,000 each while the winning male and female junior athletes (age 16-19) will receive a $50,000 training grant voucher.

Persaud told those in attendance that the staging of the event is always a “happy occasion for us, since we see this as an important part of our community activity.”

He also noted that the partnership with the AAG will continue once the fixture continues to provide an avenue for sports and youth to be developed.

Hutson, who gave an overview of the race, said that the “moving the race from one Region to another when the landmark bridge is factored in, makes it more challenging.”

The AAG head stated that he has received the blessing of the DHB and he knows that the athletes are training and are looking forward to a great run.

Hutson added that he will target ministries and the general public to be part of the exciting event.
