Colts get the better of Pacesetters

Colts defeated fierce rivals Pacesetters 54-45 in their Open division matchup when the Turbo Hard-Court basketball championships continued at the Plaisance Community Court, Saturday.

Shelroy Thomas shot his way to a game-high 24 points in the victory while Shane Webster assisted with eight points. For the losing team, veteran sharpshooter Stephon Gillis recorded 22 points and Sherlan Legall 11.

Pacesetters had raced to a 15-8 advantage in the first quarter but they failed to maintain the momentum in the second period which they lost 6-10   to head into the halftime interval 21-18.

Upon resumption, Colts seized control of the contest, recording 18 points to their foe’s nine points to take the lead at 36-30 entering the final stanza.

Colts clinched the result as they out-hustled Pacesetters 18-15 in the fourth period.

In the U23 section, Ravens grounded Eagles 54-49.

Sebastian Luke top scored with 16 points while Enduku Horatio netted 11 points. For the losers, Darrel Williams recorded a game-high 21 points while Lyndon Wilson chipped in with 13.

Trailing 23-33 at the end of the first half, Ravens reduced the deficit in the third quarter, netting 15 points while restricting their opponent to 10 points to enter the final period behind at 43-38.

Ravens then completed the come-from-behind win as they outscored Eagles 16-6 in the fourth quarter.

The division winners will be the teams that win two out of the three stages. Winner of the opening stage held at the Burnham Court were Ravens and Pacesetters in the Open and u23 sections respectively. The third aspect will be staged at the National Gymnasium outdoor venue.
