Victory Valley Royals crowned `King of the Ring’

A fourth quarter blitz propelled Victory Valley Royals to the ‘King of the Ring’ GT Beer basketball crown after they defeated Retrieve Raiders 61-57 on Saturday at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Hard-Court.

Trailing by 13 points at the end of the third period (47-34), Royals secured the Third Rock Entertainment co-ordinated championships after outscoring Raiders 27-10.

It was the best offensive period of the contest for either side.

Orlando Glasgow with 15 and Trevor Profitt with 14 were the top shooters.

For Retrieve Raiders, Neil Marks recorded a game-high 17 points while Keon Cameron and Omally Sampson chipped in with 16 and 10 points respectively.

Victory Valley Royals earned $100,000 and a trophy while the runners-up took home $75,000 and a trophy.

Earlier, Royals took the first period via a 13-9 margin but Raiders dominated the second quarter 24 points to Royals 11 points to lead 33-24 at the half.

They strengthened their position in the third quarter scoring 14 points and limiting their opponents to 10 points to go ahead at 47-34 entering the final period.

Meanwhile, former winners Half Mile Bulls earned the third position and a package of $25,000 and a trophy with a walkover against Kwakwani.
