Santos U17 team wins Shield Soccer Classic

Santos Football Club (FC) were crowned U17 champs while Gairy John of Trinidad and Tobago clinched the U15 title when the Caribbean Children Charity Shield Soccer Classic concluded Monday night at the Camp Ayanganna ground, Vlissengen Road.

The Georgetown unit secured the championships after making light work of fellow Guyanese unit and East La Penitence based side Eastveldt 4-1.

Santos received the championship trophy while Eastveldt settled for the runners-up accolade. Santos reached the final following a penalty shoot-out win over Fruta Conquerors in the semi-final stage while Eastveldt upset the highly favoured Paradise of Barbados via the identical route. Fruta Conquerors was adjudged the third best team in the section.

Meanwhile, Gairy John clinched the u15 championship after defeating Gall Hill of Barbados in the final. The top four finishers in each division were presented with trophies and medals while the other participating teams were presented with tokens of participation as well as medals.

The event which was played over a five day period, featured teams from Trinidad and Tobago as well as Barbados battling their Guyanese counterparts.

In the U17 section, Cosmos, Fruta Conquerors, Creek, Grove Hi-Tech and Eastveldt featured in Zone-A. On the other side, Zone-B comprised of Gall Hill, Blackwater, Paradise of Barbados, Alpha United and Santos.

Meanwhile group-A in the U15 section comprised of Gall Hill, Gairy John, Wales, Morvant Academy, Den Amstel and Victoria Kings while group-B consisted Waterford Compton, RP Warriors, Grove Hi-Tech ,Paradise FC, Elcock Academy and Empire.
