Forde to use Massy 10K as dress rehearsal for South American 10k

Distance ace, Cleveland Forde has won the Massy 10km road race on five consecutive occasions.

Sunday on the road ways of West Demerara and the city, the ‘Little Kenyan’ will look to continue playing the starring role of the one man show which starts at 06:00hrs.

Last year, Forde took the top honors for the event which runs off at Vreed-en-Hoop and finishes at Massy’s headquarters in Ruimveldt in a brisk 33 minutes and 15 seconds.

Guyana’s premier distance athlete will be looking to better that when he dons his running gear for the seventh annual fixture in three days.

“I’m looking to run 32 something” Forde told this publication yesterday. “It all depends on how I feel on race day as well as the conditions but I definitely want to run under 33 (minutes).”

Forde, who recently showed his class by easily winning the 1500 and 5000m races at the Boyce/Jefford Classic in Linden last weekend, added that he will be using Sunday’s race as a dress rehearsal ahead of the first leg of the South American 10km event in Suriname next month.

“I want to see where I am at ahead of the South American series, so this will be a good warm up.”

Can Forde make it six in six? The answer will be known on Sunday. See you there.

Note: Athletes are asked to assemble at the head office one hour prior to the start of the event.

Besides trophies and hampers, lucrative cash incentives will be up for grabs. In the open category, the first male and female to the tape will pocket $75,000 each while the winning male and female junior athletes (age 16-19) will receive a $50,000 training grant voucher.
