Britton, Edghill reach U21 quarter finals

Shemar Britton and Kyle Edghill yesterday reached the quarter-finals of the 21-years and under category at the 58th Caribbean Table Tennis Championships in the Dominican Republic.

According to president of the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) Godfrey Munroe, Britton advanced from his group after defeating the  number one seed in the group Arun Roopnarine of Trinidad and Tobago 4-11, 12-10, 12-10, 11-8 and Kristian Doughty of Barbados  11-6, 8-11,11-6,11-8.

He, however lost his third group match to Maranio Lockward of the Dominican Republic 2-3.

Britton is set to play Isaac Villa of the Dominican Republic for a spot in the semi-finals

Edghill advanced out of his group as the number one seed based on a three way tie among himself, Puerto Rico’s Luis Echeverria whom he lost to 11-8, 8-11, 11-6 and 11-8 and Jose Toribo of the Dominican Republic.

Edghill, though, rebounded to defeat Toribo 11-8-11-7, 11-6 and St Lucia’s Andrew Daniles 11-7, 11-3, 11-8 in his final group match.

Edghill will today play Tyrese Knights of Barbados for a place in the semifinals.

The other U21 player, Elishaba Johnson failed to advance out of group three losing to Knights, 0-3, Samuel Delephne 1-3 and Glen Smith of the Dominican Republic 0-3.
