Bright, Phillips to spearhead IGG track and field team

The Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) has named its 28-member squad to represent the Golden Arrowhead at the Inter Guiana Games here next month.

On the list released yesterday, multiple CARIFTA Games medalist, Chantoba Bright along with the fastest local female student athlete of all time, Kenisha Phillips was named to head the team which is expected to retain the track and field championship.

Named too is standout sprinters Compton Caesar and Avon Samuels.

The full team list is as follows..Under 20 Boys: Compton Caesar (100m and 200m), Tyrell Peters   (100m and 200m), Stayon Wilson (400m), Laurindo Prince (400m,800m), Anfernee Headecker (800 and 1500m), Odwin Tudor (1500 and 5000m), Delroy Leitch (5000m), Alvin George (Shot Put and Discus), Jermaine Simmons (Shot Put and Discus), Lloyd McCurdy (javelin, long and triple jump), Tramaine Beckles (javelin and long jump), Daniel Williams (high jump), Tramaine Brown (long and triple jump) and Osafo Profit (high jump).

Under 20 Girls: Kenisha Phillips (100 and 200m), Onosha Rogers (100m), Deshawna Skeete (200 and 400m), Avon Samuels (400m), Joanna Archer (800 and 1500m), Kezra Murray (800m), Shaka Tyrell (1500 and 3000m), Tabitha Bowman (3000m), Jamacia Scott (shot put, discus, javelin), Andriska Mickle (shot put, discus, javelin), Irie Cadogan (high jump), Tatyanna Blair (high jump), Chantoba Bright (high and triple jump) and Kelanie Griffith (high and triple jump).

This year’s IGG will pit host, Guyana against Suriname from October 20-24.

The 2016 Inter Guiana Games (IGG) involving Guyana and Suriname, will see student athletes vying for medals and bragging rights in seven disciplines, badminton, basketball, futsal, swimming, table tennis, track and field and volleyball.

The aim of the games is to create possibilities for youths to come together and compete in different sport disciplines, focusing on better sport results and better understanding of each other’s culture.
