Head Office ‘audit’ Sales Department

Head Office/Audit crushed Sales Department by eight wickets when the Banks DIH Limited GT Beer Inter Department tapeball cricket championships continued Monday.

Under clear skies at the Thirst Park venue, Sales Department took first strike and racked up a formidable 127/3 from their allotted 12 overs. Ramesh Persaud top scored with 42 runs while Shameer Shabir chipped in with 32.

  1. Samlall was the most economical bowler with 1-16 from two overs while Bhola Tiwari picked up one wicket for 33 runs.

In reply, Head Office overhauled the target for the loss of only two wickets reaching 128-2. Delon Legall shepherded the run chase with an unbeaten knock of 37.

He was supported by Wasim Yusuf and J. Samlall who scored 25 and 12 runs respectively. Bowling for Sales Department, Persaud was the pick of the bowlers with 1-27 from his two overs.

The tournament resumes today at the same venue with another preliminary matchup between Trisco/Novelty and Vehicle Workshop. The teams are divided into two groups. Group-A features Vehicle Workshop, Trisco/Novelty, Soft Drink Plant, Stores, Water Plant, Berbice while Group-B comprises Sales Department, Brewery, Central Work Shop, Head Office/Audit, Linden and D/W/House.

Each outright win is worth four points while a walkover result is valued at three points. If a match is drawn, both teams will receive two points.

Similarly if a contest is stopped due to rain, two points will be awarded to both sides. Upon the conclusion of the group round, the event will progress to the knockout stage.

Meanwhile, the Inter Department 5-a-side football championships will also continue today at the same venue with several preliminary matches.

The winners of the respective tournaments will receive trophies while the second and third place finishers will walk away with respective accolades.
