Heimraj Resaul, Joshua Kalekyezi and Shimron Lewis were among the winners in the boys U18 division when the third annual Bakewell junior tennis Open championships commenced at the National Racquet Centre court in Woolford Avenue recently.
Resaul defeated Vijay Sharma 6/1 6/0 and Ravin Ramprasad 6/0 6/2 while Kalekyezi crushed Ridwan Kasim 6/0 6/0 and Khalid Gobin 6/4 6/2. On the other hand, Lewis downed Akil Browne 7/5 7/6(7/3) 10/7 and gained a walkover from Alexandre Almeida.
In the same division, Viraj Sharma won thrice blanking Ridwan Sharma 6/0 6/0, Ravin Ramprasad 6/0 6/1 and Khalid Gobin 6/4 7/5 while Khalid Gobin defeated Ridwan Kasim 6/0 6/0, Mark McDonald won from Almeida 6/1 7/5 and Ravin Ramprasad edged Ariel Khan 6/3 5/7 10/5.
In the Girls U18 section Nicola Ramdyhan defeated Kalyca Fraser 6/1 6/2 while Shivani Persaud brushed aside Margaret Subryan 6/1 6/2. Fraser rebounded to beat Nathalie Ramdyhan 6/1 6/4 and Margaret Subryan crushed Kureece King 6/0 6/0.
In the boys U14 division, Jordan Beaton downed Kalekyezi 4/1 4/0 and Akil Browne 4/1 4/2 while Ridwan Kasim crushed Vijay Sharma 4/0 4/0 and gained a walkover from Michaia Andrews. Vijay Sharma defeated Adesh Khayyam 5/4(7/1) 4/1 and Michaia Andrews via a walkover.
In other results, Joshua Kalekyezi dismantled Wayne Baker 4/0 4/0 and Khayyam downed Baker 5/3 4/2.
In the boys U12 section, Adesh Khayyam defeated Anish Sharma 5/3 5/4, and Vadeanand Resaul 5/3 5/3 while Nigel Lowe defeated Jeremiah Kalekyezi 2/4 4/1 (12/10 and Wayne Baker 4/1 4/1.
In other results of the section, Kalekyezi downed Baker 4/2 4/2 while Vadeanand Resaul secured a walkover from Anish Sharma. Meanwhile in the Girls U14 section, Ciara Pooran defeated Alana Chung 4/1 5/3 and Deina Sandbeharry via a walkover while Sarah Klautky downed Pooran 4/0 4/2, Nathalie Ramdyhan edged Margaret Subryan 5/3 4/4(9/7), Alana Chung squeaked past Klautky 4/1 2/4 10/5 and Sandbeharry won via walkover from Alana Chung.
In the U12 division, Sarah Klautky dismissed Akilah Jones 4/0 4/1, Nandanee Ramdyhan 4/0 4/0 and Paula Kalekyezi 4/0 4/0. Also in the winner’s circle was Jones, who brushed side Nandanee Ramdyhan 4/1 4/1, and Paula Kalekyezi 4/1 4/1 whilst Ramdyhan downed Paula Kalelyezi 2/4 4/2 (10/2). The event continues today with the elimination round at the President’s College court.
