Grenada PM praises new regional bodybuilding champion

ST.GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC-Grenada’s Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell has heaped praise on Damion Daniel for becoming the new heavyweight body building champion in the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) region.

Daniel captured the prestigious title at the 44th Central American and Caribbean Bodybuilding Championships in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic over the weekend.

Another Grenadian, United States based Hafid Tyrone James, secured second spot in the Men’s Physique Class in the high profile tournament which ran from September 29th to October 2nd.

“On behalf of the Government and People of Grenada, Prime Minister Dr. the Right Hon. Keith Mitchell congratulates Mr. Damion Daniel and Mr. Hafid Tyrone James for outstanding performances,” said a government statement.

“Daniel and James are young men who exemplify diligence, determination and commitment to their craft, and they are testaments to the results”.

The latest title by Daniel, a security officer of the Prime Minister and a corporal in the Royal Grenada Police Force, is expected to put him in the running as a serious contender for the country’s sports man of the year award.

His capture of the region’s biggest bodybuilding title comes on the heels of a major regional sweep in which he won the Sports World Fitness Classic in Trinidad, the Darcy Beckles Invitational Classic in Barbados and Antigua’s Wesley Barrow Invitational Classic.

Prime Minister Mitchell has applauded Daniel for maintaining “a persistent work ethic” and also praised James for grabbing silver, six months after winning the Men’s Physique division at the annual Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus Ohio.

“Bodybuilding continues to be a sport on the rise here in Grenada and our athletes are making their mark,” the statement said.

Over 400 athletes from 30 countries participated in the 44th CAC body Building Championships.
