Demerara Queens, New Amsterdam Warriors win

Demerara Queens and New Amsterdam Warriors secured hard-fought wins when the National Association for Women’s Football (NAWF) Developmental League continued yesterday at the Esplanade ground in New Amsterdam (NA), Berbice.

It was a successful trek for the Linden based Queens outfit as they downed Kwakwani Strikers by a 2-0 margin to clinch the vital three points. On the other side, NA Warriors squeaked past fellow Berbice unit West Side Conquerors by a 2-1 scoreline.

The event which will be played in a group format, will be divided into three districts. Three points will be awarded for a win, while one point will be afforded to both teams for a draw.

The Georgetown Football Association (GFA), West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) and Bartica Football Association will comprise district one, with Fruta Conquerors, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Foxy Ladies and Bartica the teams slated to compete.

District two will feature the Berbice Football Association (BFA), East Demerara Football Association (EDFA), Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) and East Bank Football Association (EBFA).

The competing teams are New Amsterdam Warriors, West Side Conquerors, Demerara Queens, Kwakwani Strikers and Kuru-Kuru Warriors. Teams will be allowed to register a maximum of 15 players in the seven-a-side event, with a minimum of 12 players allowed.

The third and final district is the Rupununi Football Association, with Saints FC, Snatchers FC, Paiwomak FC and Shulinab FC the competing teams. Other venues and grounds that will be used are Tucville, Bartica, Uitvlugt, Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC), No. #5, Kwakwani, Grove Community, Saints, Shulinab and Annai. Similarly, each team must register four under-15 players in the championship.
