Beavers in come-from-behind defeat of Eagles

Beavers FC came from two goals down to defeat Eagles 3-2 when the National Milling Company (Namilco) Thunderbolt Flour u17 National Championships continued yesterday in the West Demerara zone.

Eagles stormed into the early lead with two goals in the space of five minutes. Glenroy Duncan was first to etch his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 16th minute before Mikel Small found the back of the net in the 21st minute.

However, Shaquille Richards commenced the comeback as he pulled one back in the 28th. Selbert Baptiste then made his presence felt as he equalized in the 40th minute. The unlikely comeback was sealed six minutes onward as Courtney Liverpool scored.

With the win, Beavers move from the cellar position to fifth place with six points while Eagles remain in the third position also on six points due to their superior goal differential.

In the East Bank of Demerara section of the event at the Grove Community ground, Grove Hi-Tech edged Soesdyke Falcons by a 1-0 margin compliments of a Jamacy Benjamin strike in the 58th minute while Yarrowkabra defeated Mocha Champs via a walkover in the second fixture. The event will resume on October 15th at the various venues.
