….. Zeeburg, School of Nations and East Ruimveldt record wins
Friendship Secondary upset defending East Bank Demerara champions Camille’s Institute to book a place in the final of the 2016 edition of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) National Secondary School Cricket League (NSSCL) following their showdown on Monday.
The match, played at the Everest Cricket Club ground, Camp Road, saw Camille’s Institute batting first and making a paltry 103 all out in 21.3 overs.
John Pulley was the only batsman to offer any resistance making the top score of 26 as Levi Maggie bagged 4/18, Orlando Ghisiawan, 2/14 and Jonathan Jagdeo, 2/17 bowling for Friendship Secondary.
In reply, Friendship chased down the target with relative ease, finishing on 104/4 in 22.3 overs.
Jeremiah Benjamin’s 36 and Lallbachan Arjune’s 20 were the top two scores as Davendra Sankarsingh took two of the wickets to fall.
Over on the West Coast of Demerara, Zeeburg defeated Stewartville by nine wickets when the West Coast Demerara zone commenced Friday last.
Batting first, Stewartville Secondary limped to 54 all out in 11.5 overs with Andre Seepersaud, 4/10 and Nathan Bradford, 2/14, the main wicket takers.
In reply, Zeeburg eased their way to 57-1 with Parmanand Prabhudyal, not out on 35.
At the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) ground, School of Nations defeated Richard Ishmael Secondary by five runs.
Batting first after winning the toss, School of Nations scored 135 all out in 24 overs with Mark Ramsammy top scoring with 67.
Christopher Baljeet supported with 20. Bowling for Richard Ishmael, Bryan Bowen took 4/21 while Brandon Ramnarine and Juspice Jones had identical figures of 2/18.
Richard Ishmael faltered in their run chase reaching 130 all out in
18.3 overs with Extras contributing 43 of the total. Bowling for School of Nations, Christopher Baljeet took 4/5 and Ramsammy 2/10.
At the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, East Ruimveldt Secondary beat North Ruimveldt Secondary in a low-scoring affair. North Ruimveldt, asked to bat first were dismissed for 54 in 14.2 overs.
Shaquille Dunn was the only batsmen to reach double figures with 10. Bowling for East Ruimveldt, Rashidi Benjamin had 3/5, Brian Fredericks took 3/4 and Manwar Khan claimed 2/14. East Ruimveldt lost six wickets in the process of scoring the 55 runs required for victory in the 12 over of their innings. Dequan Bamfield made a responsible 33 not out to see his team to victory.
Matches continue today with Christ Church Secondary against School of Nations at GCC in the North Zone semi-final while defending champions, Chase Academy faces St John’s College at the Demerara Cricket Club ground in the other North Zone semi-final.record wins
