Vergenoegen through to East Bank final

Vergenoegen defeated Everest Academy to reach the final of the East Bank Essequibo Zone of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) National Secondary Schools Cricket League (NSSCL).

Playing at the Tuschen ground, Everest Academy, batting first were dismissed for 123 with Travis Nedd’s 53 the top score. Bowling for Vergenoegen, Kennard Paul bagged 5/8.

Vergenoegen in reply, reached 124/3 from a mere 12 overs with Vickram Mangra top scoring with 25.  Joel Gill added 24 while Kennard Paul chipped in with 21.

Renaldo Adams was not out on 20. Bowling for Everest Academy, Darin Wright captured 2/30.

Meanwhile, in a West Berbice Zone fixture, Number Eight Secondary crushed Fort Wellington Secondary by 224 runs after amassing 279/2 in their 30 overs. Dedinauth Persaud scored 132 and Wazim Inshan 117.

Persaud struck 15 fours and 4 sixes while Inshan’s innings included 12 boundaries. Fort Wellington was restricted to 55 runs. National under 15 player and captain of Number Eight Secondary, Nigel Deodat bagged 5/13 from five overs.

At the Enterprise Community Development Centre ground, LBI whipped Ann’s Grove Secondary. Batting first Ann’s Grove fell for 38 off 9.2 overs. Bowling for LBI, Denman De Abreu took 3/3, Asif Mohamed 3/7, Bharat Deoran, 2/11 and Rakesh Persaud 2/17.

LBI needed just 3.5 overs to knock off the target losing one wicket in the process. Reaz Mohamed and Brian Jagmohan were not on 11 while Shaquille Meredith took the only wicket to fall for LBI.

The NSSCL will continue on Monday with Novar Secondary playing Mahaicony Secondary at Fairfield ground while Hope Secondary will battle President’s College at the Enterprise ground.
