Guyana seeks RAN 7s titles in T & T

The national women’s and men’s rugby teams will begin their quests to capture respective Rugby America’s North (RAN) 7s titles when the championship action gets underway today in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad.

The Guyana men’s team dubbed the ‘Green Machine’ has won the championship on seven occasions and will look to once again transform into robot mode to capture their eighth title. However, standing in their path are 13 other teams, including Canada and Mexico. Guyana will be playing Jamaica, Turks and Caicos and Martinique in Group D.

The women’s outfit which has won three Regional titles, will compete with nine other teams for the spoils over the weekend. Guyana’s female team will be in Group B with the hosts, Mexico, Bahamas and the Dominican Republic.

With 68 matches over the course of the tournament, fans at the CIC Grounds at St. Mary’s College can expect  high caliber rugby. Competition will run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m today, and from 9:00 a.m to 6:00 p.m. tomorrow. All matches will be streamed live on www.rugbyamericasnorth.com.
