Farfan & Mendes Junior Squash Tournament

Junior national U17 player Alex Cheeks fashioned the first upset of the Farfan and Mendes Junior Squash Championship, defeating Category-A favourite, Caribbean Girls U19 runner-up Taylor Fernandes 3-2, on Wednesday’s opening night at the Georgetown Club.

In a match that could have gone either way, Taylor won the first game 11- 6, but Alex bounced back to win the second game 11 – 6. Taylor then won a close third game 11 – 9, but Alex again rebounded to take the fourth game 11 – 4. The fifth game was close throughout, but it seemed all over for Taylor when Alex had match ball at 10 – 7. Taylor refused to concede, and won the next three points to even the score at ten all. The scores were again level at eleven, before Alex won the next two points to secure a hard earned victory.
