Hockey: Pepsi Hikers routs Avengers 8-1

Pepsi Hikers, Bounty Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) and Woodpecker Hikers Ladies secured convincing wins when the Diamond Mineral Water International Indoor Hockey Festival started on Wednesday.

In the Men’s Division, Pepsi Hikers made light work of Avengers by an 8-1 margin at the National Gymnasium. Randy Hope recorded a double in the 25th and 26th minute while Robert France netted in the eighth and 27th minute.

Adding to the rout were Rayon Branford, Paramanand Dindial, Andrew Stewart and Aroydy Branford in the sixth, 20th, 27th and 28th minute correspondingly. On target in the loss was Kevin Edwards in the 18th minute.

In the Veteran Section, Bounty GCC downed Old Fort by a 4-2 scoreline. Dwayne Scott scored a double in the eighth and 29th minute while Devin Hooper found the back of the net in the 13th and 31st minute.

For the loser, Chris Low-Koan registered a brace in the 23rd and 33rd minute. Meanwhile in the Women’s Division, Woodpecker Hikers brushed aside Old Fort 4-1. Latacia Chung led the assault compliments of a hat-trick on either side of halftime in the sixth, 30th and 40th minute.

She was assisted by Nicola Eastman who scored in the 15th minute. Minsodia Culpepper briefly threatened for Old Fort as she etched her name on the scorer’s sheet in the 10th minute. The event resumes today at the same venue with another round of group stage fixtures.
