Three die in Vreed-en-Hoop accident

The Police say they are investigating a fatal accident which occurred about 4 this afternoon on New Road Public Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Bank Demerara which resulted in the deaths of the driver Deodat Mohan, 24, of Vreed-en-Hoop, WBD and its occupants Reaz Barakat, 18, Rumzight Gardens, West Coast Demerara and Telisha (only name given), 17, of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara.

Lethem formally declared town

Lethem, in Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), was on Friday formally declared a capital town and President David Granger used the occasion to call for cooperation at all levels of government, regardless of political affiliation, for the good of the region.

New public service tribunal registrar driven to serve the ordinary indivdual

After more than two decades, members of the public service now have recourse in matters of appointments, dismissals or other forms of disciplinary action with the appointment of the Registrar of the Public Service Appellate Tribunal (PSAT) Newly accepted member of the bar Amoura Giddings was appointed Registrar of the tribunal by President David Granger last week and the young attorney said her new position is right up her alley as she always wanted to work in an area that offers assistance to people who may be struggling.

In an earlier comment about song-writing I made the point that while talent has to be there, the more critical quality is observation because that is almost always the ingredient that sets a song apart; the writer has turned a light on something in the society, or in an individual, that would have otherwise escaped the rest of us in the populace.

Over 1,000 forestry stakeholders benefit from FLEGT training

Over 1,000 persons around the country, over the past year have benefitted from eight projects which were funded by the National Technical Working Group (NTWG) and the Forest Law Enforcement, Gover-nance and Trade (FLEGT) Facilitation Support Office (FFSO), according to Deonarine Ramsaroop, President of the Forest Products Association (FPA) of Guyana.
