Georgetown Beauty and Body Promenade

Two signs erected at each end of the Merriman Mall between Cummings and Light streets, proclaim that section of the mall ‘Georgetown Beauty and Body Promenade.’ Vendors said the signs were placed there by the City Council, but it does not escape the eye of even the casual observer that the signs were likely funded by Lux soap, a Unilever brand. This new move comes in the wake of the city demolishing some of the stalls in that area, all of which are occupied by cosmetologists and barbers, in January this year. Later that same month, at a statutory meeting, the Mayor and City Council passed a motion that the barbers and cosmetologists operating on the Merriman Mall would have until July 31, to find themselves in enclosed spaces.
