Man remanded over murder of Cornelia Ida woman

A 37-year-old man today appeared before court charged with the murder of a 65-year-old Cornelia Ida woman, just after he had raped her in her home.

The courtroom of Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, heard that on October 2, 2016, at Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara, Jaipaul Jitlall, also known as ‘Lotta’, of Anna Catherina, Sea View, West Coast Demerara, murdered Bibi Keniez, in the course or furtherance of a rape. Jitlall, who stood in the prisoner’s dock unrepresented, was not required to plead to the charge.

Police prosecutor Deniro Jones, told the court that there are some issues which will be addressed, in relation to the statements to complete the police file.

Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan subsequently, remanded the accused to prison. Jitlall’s matter was adjourned until January 10 when it will be called at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.

Keneiz, a mother of three who resided alone in a small shack made out of zinc sheets in Cornelia Ida Squatting Area, WCD, was stabbed 11 times about her body. When she was found dead by her  son, Dennis (only name given), she was naked from the waist down.
