Prison warder remanded over murder of wife

Prison Warder Sheldon Prince, who allegedly stabbed his wife to death on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, was yesterday remanded to prison, when he appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court.

Prince, 30, of Lot 40 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, appeared before Magistrate Marisa Mittelholzer, where he was charged with murdering his wife, Lonette Nicholson- Prince, 22, at the National Psychiatric Hospital, Fort Canje, Berbice.

The neatly dressed accused who was not required to plead to the indictable charge, was represented by Attorney-at-Law Murseline Bacchus.

He is expected to return to the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court on February 15, for fixtures.

During the court proceedings, his attorney made an application for full disclosure. The Magistrate granted the application and ordered that the prosecution comply before the next court date. Nicholson who was a hairdresser at the Psychiatric Hospital, had just arrived at work last Wednesday morning around 8 am, when Prince, a prison warder at the Mazaruni Prison, allegedly launched the attack.

Nicholson- Prince, 22, of Lot 11 Levi Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam had died from shock and haemorrhage, due to several stab wounds to the heart and other parts of the body.

The couple have a four-year-old daughter.
