Number 19 man granted $200,000 bail on attempted murder charge

A man from Number 19 Village, Corentyne, Berbice was yesterday placed on $200,000 bail on an attempted murder charge when he appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court.

Magistrate Rhondell Weaver read the charge to Ramatally Ali, 24, which stated that with intent to commit murder, he hit Fazal Gobin to his head.

According to information, both the accused and the virtual complainant were at a wedding in Number 19 Village on January 14, when Ali allegedly hit Gobin in the head with a rolling pin, causing a wound.

Gobin, who is also from Number 19 Village, was rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was examined and admitted. He sustained a fractured skull, but has since been discharged from the hospital.

Ali will appear in court next on March 3.
