The courtroom of Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan heard that on January 25, at Eteringbang, Cuyuni River, Rolex Williams, 18, stole from Trevor Joseph, a pouch, a quantity of Digicel cards, amounting to $40,000, as well as $80,000 cash.

Williams pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him.

Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones objected to Williams receiving bail. Jones told the court that the defendant has similar matters before other courts. The prosecutor also mentioned that while Williams was on bail for a previous matter, he robbed Joseph.

According to the prosecution’s case, Williams and Joseph left a camp site to go and buy food together. However, when they were making their way to the shop, Williams allegedly snatched Joseph’s pouch, which contained the cards and the money, and he ran away. Jones said the matter was later reported to the police and soon after Williams was contacted and arrested for the offence.

Chief Magistrate McLennan remanded Williams to prison and the case was adjourned until February 3.
