To mark its 26th Anniversary, employees of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT) pooled their resources and donated more than $1 million in care items to residents of the Palms on Friday last.

Employees of all the departments of the company, including engineers, technicians, customer care representatives, managers and others, participated in what was dubbed ‘the Shoe Box Challenge,’ which saw them packaging shoe boxes with care items for the residents. The GTT representatives explained that the Palms was selected since it is in the vicinity of GTT’s headquarters and “because the staff felt that often the elderly are forgotten in benevolence activities.”

Customer Care Representative Almetra Reis said, “We challenged ourselves to ‘do more’ [which is the company’s motto] and we came up with this Shoe Box Challenge to give back because we care and we will do more for you – the elderly, the young and everyone in Guyana.”

The GTT delegation was met with praises and appreciation from all residents at the institution.
