‘Guyana is a role model … as a state of peace and prosperity’

New non-resident Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Guyana, Alaaeldin Wagih Roushdy yesterday presented his Letters of Credence to President David Granger at State House.

Ambassador Roushdy said that Guyana is a shining light and a role model to other countries across the world as a state which endeavours towards peace and prosperity, according to a press release from the Ministry of the Presidency (MoP).

“I start my mission here with complete confidence that I will have very fruitful cooperation with the Guyanese Government. Good cooperation and coordination between our two countries in multilateral organisations… and the excellent Egyptian and Guyanese ties gained its strength from the convergence about many international, political and economic issues,“ Roushdy, was quoted in the MoP release as saying.

The new envoy noted that the two countries had exchanged support for the candidatures of both countries for the membership of international organisations and specialized committees, and pledged to ensure the strengthening of trade and economic relations between Egypt and Guyana, the MoP media bulletin said.

President Granger in his remarks, said that the two countries’ diplomatic ties were based on shared values of mutual respect of territorial integrity and sovereignty, respect for treaties, international law and the maintenance of peace and security, according to the release.

“The relations between our two countries have evinced cooperation within the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. Possibilities exist for enhancing relations between our two states in the areas of agriculture, commerce, education and health,” President Granger was quoted in the MoP bulletin as stating. The President added that he was looking forward to the finalizing of the proposed 2011 draft agreement on technical, cultural, scientific and economic cooperation between the two territories during the new Ambassador’s tenure.
