Teen robber tells court he was misled

“I was misled,” was a teen’s cry yesterday after he admitted to a city magistrate that he robbed a man of almost $200,000 in items.

Rickford Marcus, 18, is accused of being in company of another and robbing Ricardo Mohabir of a phone, valued at $150,000, and other articles. The total value of the stolen items was given as $193,000.

According to the teen, he was recently laid off from work and has a pregnant girlfriend.

He said at the time of the robbery he had no money, while noting that he was also misled by the person who was with him when the crime was committed.

Magistrate Leron Daly told Marcus that he is old enough to understand the consequence of his actions. However, she subsequently ordered that a probation report be done on him prior to sentencing, which is set for February 28.

Marcus will remain in prison until that time.
