Number 19 Public Road gets lights

After years of calling for lights on the Corentyne, sections of the Number 19 road from Seawell to Bohemia and Adventure to Tarlorgie Farm have been lit.

The project was undertaken by the Ministry of Public Infrastructure. In September 2016, the ministry announced plans to install street lights along the Number 19 road, as well as other areas on the Upper Corentyne.

The lights were recently turned on and road users have since praised the ministry for fulfilling its promise.

Regional Chairman, David Armogan told Stabroek News that the installation began back in December and the project is currently being done in phases.

The Number 19 stretch of road has been the scene of numerous fatal and serious road accidents.

Armogan is hopeful that with the installation of the lights drivers would have better vision on the roadway.

“The Number 19 road would normally have animals, big trucks and tractors parked on the road and sometimes you don’t see these things when you are driving. I hope the lights would help to reduce the number of fatal accidents on the road,” he said.

Number 19 Village is a farming community and there is usually a large number of animals on the road during the day and night.
